My product fits the product brief as it suits the target audience of ages 15-24 year old by focusing on topics that research shows is more popular within a younger target audience such as cheating, love triangles and murder. This creates my show a hybrid genre of crime and soap operas which will be more successful than a typical soap opera.
This will also be suitable for the BBC and will follow their values by making sure that violence and profanity is reduced in order for it to be shown before the watershed. Furthermore, at the end credits of each episode I will make sure to add any phone numbers and helplines for people to contact if they feel worried about what occurred within the programme in order to give my soap opera the education aspect of the BBC.
As well as this, in order to make sure that my soap opera hold longevity and does not just end after one story line, I have developed ideas for other storylines that would be able to develop during and after the one originally proposed to ensure that people contine to watch the show. These focus on storylines such as divorce, parental illness, mental health and teen pregnancy – all issues which could be experienced by the target audience -making it more relatable.
Within this I have characters that follow the same typical conventions as soap operas by being within the same family and living close together within the town of Evermore. To add some more insight into the characters that may be involve in these storylines, I have developed more character profiles.
Ellie is Taylor’s 15 year old younger sister. She is pretty and popular with a kind heart despite her struggles with her family. Her mother Sarah recently became ill with cancer and now home feels just too quiet. She has to remain happy at school despite her home life and is having difficulty with her boyfriend Joe as she has chosen not to tell him about her mum. Ellie lives with Taylor and her mum –next to Danielle within the town of Evermore –it backs onto the canal. Taylor and Danielle have been friends ever since they were born due to their gardens being right next to each other –with a gate between.
Bella is Este’s younger sister –she is 13 with a tanned face and body, long flowing auburn hair that changes between waves and ringlets. She wears a lot of black and listens to sad music –keeping to herself and remaining very quiet. They live in a small flat above the local shop.
Sam is Danielle’s mother –she has lived in her house backing onto the canal for over 20 years with her now ex husband James. They were teenage sweethearts but the relationship turned sour after Danielle was born leading to a divorce and a childhood home that must be left. She is kind –if not a little hurt from her past. She has short grey hair and old eyes. These extra characters will ensure that my soap opera has longevity.
